It has emerged that Jenson Button’s management approached the current pacesetters, Red Bull, in an attempt to join the team for the 2010 season.
Button left Brawn GP after winning both championships with the Brackley based team before moving to McLaren to partner Lewis Hamilton.
The move was thought to be down to Ross Brawn’s decision not to increase Button’s wage, however that wasn’t the case after Button admitted money wasn’t a factor. He later told the media that he moved for the challenge and to prove himself.
The 30-year-old looked to replace Mark Webber at Red Bull and partner the young, and very talented Sebastian Vettel.
Team principal Christian Horner admitted a conversation took place between Button’s management and the team: “We did receive an inquiry from Jenson’s management last summer,” he said.
“But we were, and still are, very happy with our two drivers.”
