Pedro de la Rosa has high hopes for his home GP in Spain where Sauber will introduce several new parts for the C29.
After what can only be described as a slow and unreliable start to the season, the Sauber team are hoping a number of upgrades will finally see both cars cross the finishing line.
“We have high hopes for Barcelona,” de la Rosa told El Mundo Deportivo. “We have new parts to improve the car’s performance and its a major leap.”
The cars lack of pace isn’t the only problem affecting Sauber. Whilst the official team name might be BMW-Sauber, the car is in fact powered by Ferrari engines, which haven’t been very reliable.
In Malaysia, de la Rosa failed to start the grand prix thanks to an engine issue which later affected, and ended Kamui Kobayashi’s race. A similar problem occurred in China.
De la Rosa finally added: “We also hope that Ferrari have already solved the engine problem.”
It’s thought Ferrari have indeed discovered an issue which is affecting their engine reliability. According to Auto Motor und Sport, Ferrari my ask for the FIA’s permission to upgrade their engine on the grounds of reliability.
