Almost half the field are expected to debut their own McLaren style F-ducts in China. Ferrari, Williams and Mercedes are expected to run their systems in practice, before evaluating their effectiveness.
Whilst Sauber have already run their own in Australia and Malaysia, and will continue to use it throughout the season.
Nico Hulkenberg is hoping the system will be as effective as McLaren’s, giving them a straight-line speed advantage on the long back straight in China.
“The system works very much like it does on the McLaren,” he is quoted as saying by ESPN. “We will see how it goes tomorrow [Friday] and then see [if we use it in the race].”
Both Mercedes and Ferrari are also expected to debut the system in practice, although it’s unknown if they will be used in the race.
“In the wind tunnel and in the simulation, our system works,” ESPN also quote Ross Brawn as saying. “If Friday’s practice confirms these results, then we will use it in the races.”
