Mark Webber suffered his first engine failure of the season in Malaysia practice two. His car ground to a halt after just 13 laps of running.
The engine though, has completed near 1,600km after being used in both Bahrain and Australia. Although engines are now expected to last 2.3 races, or eight engines to cover the full 10 race season.
“It was the engine. You never want your Friday disturbed and today’s problem cost us quite a bit of track time, but the car felt pretty good in the quick stuff and also at low speeds,” Webber said after practice.
“It’s never ideal to lose an engine, but we did, although it was quite high mileage.”
