It was an impressive day for F1 tyre supplier, Bridgestone.

Race winner Jenson Button managed to win the race after some quick thinking on tyre strategy. He switched from intermediate’s to slicks before anyone else, a decision which proved to be the pinnacle point of his win.

“What an entertaining race and superb showcase for our Bridgestone tyre technology,” director of Bridgestone Motorsport, Hiroshi Yasukawa said. “Congratulations to Jenson Button for his first win for Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, and well done to Robert Kubica for his strong second place for the Renault F1 Team.”

“This was a great day for tyre performance, strategy and racing as we saw interesting action on track and a good illustration of the benefits of tyre management,” added Tyre development director, Hirohide Hamashima.

In 2009, fans and teams complained about the durability of the soft tyre as drivers struggled to get more than 20 competitive laps out of them.

This doesn’t seem to be the case in 2010, as Jenson Button managed to remain competitive, despite the 52 laps he completed on his soft tyres, not to mention the larger fuel load and braking load.

“Jenson Button did a superb job to look after his soft tyres for 52 laps for an impressive victory.

“There was an interesting battle between the one stop strategies of the Ferraris and the two stop strategy of Lewis Hamilton.”
