Sauber look to have revealed a new name and logo in their team preview.
When the FIA released their final entry list for the 2010 season, many had expected BMW Sauber to have changed their name, or to at least drop the ‘BMW’ part as the team no longer has any connections with the German marque.
With the supply of Ferrari engines, the team is officially known as BMW Sauber Ferrari in the constructors championship.
However, the team is thought to have kept the BMW Sauber name in order to receive prize money under the Concorde agreement.
In a media release previewing the Bahrain GP, the familiar Sauber ‘S’ was used for the first time in 2010, along with the name ‘Sauber Motorsport’ – likely to replace the team name at somepoint in 2010 or before the next championship.
Sauber have impressed in testing, with Lewis Hamilton stating they, and Force India could be the surprise front-runners along with McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull.
Meanwhile, Pedro de la Rosa has downplayed the pace, saying the team won’t pull off a ‘Brawn’ in 2010.
“The rules this time are well known and now exploited 100 per cent by all the teams, so there will be no ‘Brawn 2’,” the former McLaren test driver told Diario Sport.
