According to Sauber’s Pedro de la Rosa, the C29 isn’t far behind the leading pack, consisting of Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes.
The Spaniard told the waiting media in Barcelona that the Sauber is competitive and the next development step is to shrink the gap between them and the top four.
“The car is good,” said Pedro, “I think we’re leading the group that is behind the four prominent teams that we all know.
“Our goal now is to shorten the distance to them, which is not too much,” he added.
Sauber have indeed shown pace in the tests, regularly popping up in the top three, however with the ban on re-fuelling, it’s difficult to tell if the times are competitive or not.
