The first test of the season in Barcelona kicked-off today, the teams seemingly delighted with the warmer, dry weather.

Teams have brought some new innovative ideas with them to the test, most notably Ferrari. Although wheel covers are banned for the 2010 season, Ferrari have introduced two inner discs to the wheel to aid airflow. Check out the image, click here.

Mercedes meanwhile have introduced new quick-release pit jacks that operate with the use of purely mechanical and spring-loaded triggers, rather than electronics or pneumatics.

Despite these innovations, it was the Red Bull of Mark Webber who went quickest in the morning. Setting a 1:21.487, over a second ahead of second placed man Nico Rosberg.

The woes continue for Virgin as Lucas di Grassi lost control at turn nine sending the rear of the car into the barriers, causing considerable damage. Virgin confirmed they wouldn’t be taking part in the afternoon.
