United Autosports adds Alex Brundle and Ryan Cullen to lineup for possible Le Mans entry

United Autosports has confirmed the signing of both Ryan Cullen and Alex Brundle for their 2019 LMP2 lineup. The Anglo-American outfit says that the pair will race in the European Le Mans Series and 24 Hours of Le Mans if the team is provided entry.

The announcement marks Brundle's return to United Autosports as he raced for the team in 2016 and was crowned LMP3 champion in the ELMS, as well as replacing Bruno Senna in their LMP2 effort at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2018.

“I’m very excited and motivated to be racing with United Autosports in LMP2 for 2019, re-joining the team who took me to the championship title in LMP3," said Brundle.

"I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of a Ligier once more, representing a world-class outfit and my longstanding sponsors and friends at Richard Mille.”

Cullen is set to make his race debut at United Autosports, although the Irishman does have testing experience in the team's Ligier LMP2 machinery as well as winning this year's Rolex 24 at Daytona in LMP2 class.

“I’m delighted to be joining United Autosports for 2019. It’s a team with great structure and experience and the perfect place for me to grow and be competitive in ELMS," said Cullen.

"So far everybody has been superb and very welcoming and I’m looking forward to having Alex as a teammate. Le Mans also excites me and pending an entry of course, this year will be my first time racing at Le Mans. After experiencing success last month at Daytona, the prospect of being with a front running team in my second 24-hour race is a fantastic position to be in.”

Team owner Zak Brown commented: “Alex and Ryan will be a good combination for our LMP2 team. They are both quick and experienced drivers in the ELMS and in the LMP2 class. The competition looks set to be higher than ever in the ELMS this year but I think we have two good line ups so far. Just one more seat left to fill.”

United Autosports had already confirmed Phil Hanson and Filipe Albuquerque as part of the line-up of their second LMP2 entry for the European Le Mans Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which is set to take place on the 15th and 16th of June.
