FIA approves 21-round 2019 Formula 1 calendar

Formula 1’s 21-event 2019 calendar has been officially ratified by the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council.

A provisional schedule for next season was released during the Italian Grand Prix weekend six weeks ago, and was officially rubber-stamped during Friday's meeting of the WMSC in Paris.

The season will again begin in Australia, a week earlier than in 2018, while the campaign will conclude in Abu Dhabi at the start of December.

The schedule will feature the same 21 Grands Prix as this season after contract renewals were reached with Germany (for one year) and Japan (for three years).

A proposal for a Grand Prix in Miami, that was poised to join in an October date, was indefinitely put on hold.

Compared to the 2018 schedule Russia now runs back-to-back with Singapore, as opposed to Japan, while Mexico will be held prior to the round in the United States, which remains subject to final approval.
